Every year LJ Shores Surfing Association members nominate and elect worthy causes to receive our club
funds.  We’re proud of this tradition, and over the past
10 years, we have given over $40,000 to non-profit
organizations with the event proceeds from our annual menehune surf contest and gathering of the crew for a
good cause...
We sponsor summer beach cleanups, educational tours to raise awareness, and have taken trips
to bring supplies to the Door of Faith orphanage in Baja, supported earthquake victims in Haiti and other
projects our members care about.
Here are the 'good causes' we are supporting this year with proceeds from
our 2018 Annual Menehune Surf Contest

  • Friends of La Jolla Shores: This local group has spearheaded and completed many great projects
at La Jolla Shores beach to improve the visitors' experience for locals and tourists alike. Together with
La Jolla Shores Surfing Association, they helped us with the design, installation of the surf mural and
dolphin mosaic tiles at our new North Kellogg Park Comfort Station!  You may support this project and
others by making a donation directly to the "Friends of La Jolla Shores"

  • Scripps Institution of Oceanography in support of the oceanographic collections.  At a time
when our planet’s biodiversity is increasingly threatened, documenting and understanding the diversity
of marine life and our changing Earth is more important than ever.  OUr surf club enjoys special behind-
the-scenes, lectures, and more with this world-renowned  research facility in our backyard, and will keep
you informed of tours, lectures, and other events around Scripps.

  • Natural High:  We’re proud to welcome and honor local this local foundation, headquartered in La
Jolla, and founded by local surfer Jon Sundt.  Their mission  is to influence the hearts and minds of kids
by inspiring them to  live their natural high and reject drugs. They produce and distribute Natural High
DVDs for FREE, to every middle school, public and private, throughout the United States.  The DVDs are
currently being used in every state in the country.

  • Prevent Drowning Foundation  , formerly SD Jr. Lifeguard Foundation, in support of scholarships
for the City of San Diego Junior Lifeguard program and swim safety courses in under privileged
communities. Their mission is to save lives by providing skills for life programs focused on drowning
prevention and aquatic safety education within our community.

  • Naval Hospital Surf Clinic teaches surfing to challenged athletes and supports the surf club
(Ride it Out), a military surf club for surfing veterans. We support surfing veterans participation
          in our annual surf contest.
